Measurement of alpha-activity concentration in Egyptian geological samples using CR-39
Description
A plastic track detector CR-39 was used to determine the alpha-activity concentration of some geological samples. The registration efficiency of a CR-39 detector for polyenergetic alpha-decays from thick standard samples was found to be 7.85 x 10-3 tracks cm-2s-1/(Bq g-1). Uranium and thorium concentrations were computed by the alpha-autoradiography technique. By using these techniques it was found that the concentrations of uranium and thorium lie in the range 0.24-24.1 ppm and 2.8-103ppm, respectively. (author)
