Thirteenth annual report of: the Radioactive Waste Management Advisory Committee
Description
The Radioactive Waste Management Advisory Committee (RWMAC) was re-established in autumn 1991. The original terms of reference of the Committee were modified and now read as follows: To advise the Secretaries of State for the Environment, Scotland and Wales on the technical and environmental implications of major issues concerning the development and implementation of an overall policy for all aspects of the management of civil radioactive waste, including research and development; and on any such matters referred to it by the Secretaries of State. The only change of significance, with respect to the revised terms of reference, is that the Secretaries of State may now explicitly seek the Committee's advice on specific matters, although such requests had occurred in the past. The Membership of the Committee has been increased from eighteen to twenty one, and assessors from Government Departments and other organisations no longer attend the Committee's meetings. The enlargement of the Committee Membership has permitted an increase in the numbers of individuals who have wider, lay interests. This document, the Thirteenth Annual Report of the RWMAC, covers the activities of the Committee from November 1991 to December 1992. (author)
