Nuclear accident dosimetry - report on the fourth IAEA intercomparison experiment at Harwell, UK - 7th-8th April 1975: Part 1 - Description of the experiment and participants' results

Description

An experiment was organised at Harwell to test nuclear accident dosimetry (NAD) systems from some 17 laboratories in 13 countries. Dosimeters were irradiated by the Viper reactor at Aldermaston which gave a well moderated neutron spectrum with a broad peak from 1 keV to 1 MeV. This provided a good test of the different systems for personal and area dosimetry which showed variations in the final mean of up to 20% for neutron dose and 25% for γ-ray dose for all participants. Results for different laboratories are presented in Part I and brief details of each system employed will be given in Part II of this paper (AERE-R8521, 1976, HMSO). A list of participants is included. (author)
