The results of environmental radioactivity, surveillance around the Institute of Nuclear Research in Swierk, Poland, in 1972

Description

It was observed that no significant influence of the works carried out in Institute of Nuclear Research to the environmental radioactivity levels in its vicinity exists, excluding municipal sewage system to which small amounts of radioactive effluents are discharged. Radioactive effluents being released from the Nuclear Center to Vistula River through the general effluent purification plant in Otwock do not affect the radioactivity level of Vistula River. The observed contaminations of water, plants and soil, which appear both within the Nuclear Center and in more distant areas are due to natural nuclides as well as worldwide radioactive fallout.
