Estimation of the information capability of radiation scattered from the surface area of geometric bodies

Description

Results of experimental studies of differential characteristics of radiation scattered from objects of different geometric configurations to study feasibilities of radiation inspection of surface effective area according to energy albedo of bremsstrahlung of electron accelerators are presented. The investigations are carried out using tapered aluminium and hollow steel spheres objects. Boundary energy of bremsstrahlung spectrum constituted 6 MeV. It is shown that integral contribution of scattered energy is determined by effective surface areas of the objects. Qualitative character of spectral distributions and relative contribution of energies of backscattered #betta#-radiation depends on characteristics of irradiating flux and direction of radiation detection. Increase of scatterer thickness leads to increase of scattered energy. Evaluations of measurement errors are made
