Role of lead in yttrium cuprate superconductor
Description
Lead was substituted for copper in the YBa2Cu3O7-x superconductor and the effect of this substitution was studied on the crystallographic structure, the electronic structure and superconducting behavior as a function of extent of substitution. Whereas there is no significant change in the Tc (onset) value, the Tc (R = 0) decreases and this decrease has been correlated with the change in Cu2+ fraction. Lead itself goes in the lattice in +2 and +4 valence states and results in the occurrence of a new orthorhombic phase in addition to the usual 123 phase
