Core mass-interflash period relation for double shell source stars

Description

Helium-shell flashes are studied in models of a star of 3 M/sub sun/ with a degenerate core of 0.57, 0.68, 0.97, and 1.374 M/sub sun/. A well-defined core mass-interflash period relation is established. This relation may be combined with the known theoretical core mass-luminosity relation to find a core mass, an intrinsic luminosity, and a distance to an object with known interflash period. An application of this method to FG Sagittae is discussed. A model with a 1.374 M/sub sun/ core developed weak helium-shell flashes every 16 years
