Confinement and the dynamics of magnetic monopoles
Description
In 4-d U(1) gauge theory confinement is caused by a condensation of magnetic monopoles. Performing an abelian projection it is investigated whether the same mechanism is responsible for confinement in nonabelian gauge theories. Numerical simulations of 4-d SU(2) gauge theory indeed support the picture of the QCD vacuum as a dense state of color magnetic monopoles. (orig.)
