The scattering of electromagnetic radiation by a free electron
Description
It is shown that the frequency of the scattered radiation can be deduced accurately using a model in which the radiation is described as a classical electromagnetic wave. By considering the experimental facts and applying the conservation laws, the quantal nature of the interaction is exposed. The view is taken that this resides in the charge-matter system, but not in the electromagnetic radiation.
