Fusion energy and metallic materials
Description
Recently, startup companies aiming for the early realization of fusion energy have garnered attention both domestically and internationally. While the choice of materials does not directly enable fusion reactions, a wide range of materials, including metals, is essential to safely and stably harness the benefits of fusion energy over an extended period. Using the ongoing ITER construction as an example, this study highlights the materials required, as well as the current status and challenges in their development. (J.P.N.)
