Description

Since turbulent impinging jets have been used in many engineering devices due to high heat and mass transfer rates, it is important to numerically predict impinging jet heat-transfer with high accuracy. In this study, we carried out numerical simulations in plane impinging jets to evaluate the performance of existing linear and nonlinear two-equation turbulence models. It is found that the linear model overpredicts turbulence energy at the stagnation point. On the other hand, the prediction of nonlinear model shows good agreement with the DNS. In the thermal field, however, linear and nonlinear models underpredict the wall-normal turbulent heat-flux, and hence both types of models underpredict the local Nusselt number. Moreover, the second peak of the local Nusselt number is not reproduced by the models. (author)
