Results and complications seen in percutaneous CT-guided fine-needle biopsy

Description
Described are the results of 72 CT-guided fine-needle biopsies. Puncture sites were the thorax, abdomen, pelvis and retroperitoneum. On the basis of the cytological assessments malignancies could be diagnosed in 45 cases (62.5%) and benign lesions in 24 cases (33.3%), while in 3 cases (4.2%) the specimens obtained only provided doubtful diagnostic information. It was thus calculated that the findings revealed by this method were accurate in 95.8%. Serious complications requiring treatment did not occur. The total rate of complications was 2.7% (n = 2) and remained below that seen in biopsies performed with needles of a greater calibre. (orig./MG)
Abstract (German)
Es wird ueber die Ergebnisse von 72 CT-gesteuerten Punktionen mit einer Feinnadel berichtet. Punktionsorte waren Thorax, Abdomen, Becken und Retroperitoneum. Dabei fanden sich zytologisch in 45 Faellen (62,5%) ein maligner Tumor, in 24 Faellen (33,3%) eine benigne Laesion, in 3 Faellen (4,2%) erlaubte das gewonnene Material keine diagnostisch verwertbare zytologische Aussage. Hieraus ergibt sich eine Treffsicherheit der Methode von 95,8%. Schwerwiegende, behandlungsbeduerftige Komplikationen sind nicht aufgetreten. Die Gesamtkomplikationsrate lag mit 2,7% (n = 2) unter der Komplikationsrate von Punktionen mit grosslumigen Punktionsnadeln. (orig./MG)Additional details
