Cyclotron instability of the earth radiation belts

Description
The authors examine the physical conditions in the geomagnetic trap and discuss the linear theory of the cyclotron instability. A quasilinear description is presented on the cyclotron instability and stationary states of the earth RB are considered. Pulsations of magnetic field tubes with generation of CI relaxation oscillations are discussed. The Alfven sweep maser is described and the generation of the main types of the low-frequency electromagnetic radiation in the magnetosphere is examined
