Description
During a LOCA in a PWR, important condensation phenomena take place in the neighbourhood of the Emergency Core Cooling (ECC) injection system. An experimental programs has been developed to study the direct contact condensation on subcooled water in the COSI loop which simulates ECC injection ina cold leg. The facility and the test results are briefly presented. Analysing the data, some basic physical mechanisms are pointed out. Heat and mass transfer correlations are developed for the CATHARE code and assessed by calculating the COSI tests. An important part of the condensation occurs in the vicinity of the injection. Thus it is sensitive to the characteristics of the injection system: geometry of the injection pipe, velocity of the injected water. (orig./DG)
