Effect of hydrogen on reliability of high-strength corrosion-resistant steels

  • 1. FGUP Vserossijskij NII Aviatsionnykh Materialov, GNTsRF, Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

The influence of hydrogen both as environment and as dissolved in metal during various processing procedures (melting, welding) on the level of mechanical properties and reliability is considered for high-strength corrosion-resistant steels (VNs-2, VNs-5, VNs-25, EhP-517, EhP-817, EhI-961). The mathematical models are developed which relate the plasticity of steel to the pressure of gaseous hydrogen and test temperature as well as to the rate of loading and the pressure of metal hydridation. Hydrogen embrittlement is noted to manifest itself at the most under prolonged loading (static or cyclic) of specimens with sharp stress concentrators
