  • 1. Kazakhskij Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Onkologii i Radiologii, Alma-Ata (USSR)

Description

The effectiveness of the antineoplastic chemotherapeutic drug prospidin in planocellular carcinima and also its radiosensitizing property are considered. The authors used this drug for the first time in combination with telegammatherapy for the treatment of 80 patients with oesophageal carcinoma. The encouraging immediate results of the treatment were obtained. Complete regression of the tumour was noted in 35 % of the patients. Taking into consideration favourable results of treating patients with oesophageal carcinoma and little toxicity of the drug the authors recommend the use of prospidin in a dose of 100 mg (totally 3 g) in combination with telegammatherapy (200 rad daily, 6000 rad for a complete ''split course'' of treatment) for the treatment of patients with oesophageal carcinoma
