Description
A multitracer technique enables the simultaneous tracing of a number of elements in various biological and chemical systems. A heavy ion reaction in the intermediate energy region is useful for producing multitracer elements, because it yields a wide variety of radioactive isotopes. Some radiochemical experiments with the target fragmentation reaction were performed with Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) for the development of a new target system that allows more rapid production of a wider variety of multitracer elements. On the basis of our previous data for the yield and recoil property, we designed a special irradiation apparatus, by which the products are introduced into water and then circulated from the irradiation chamber to a solution reservoir placed in front of Ge-detector. Test experiments with the apparatus were performed using Au and Nb targets at the beams of 40Ar (650 MeV/u) and 12C (400 MeV/u), respectively. (author)
