Mo-99 Production Using Rhodotron-TT200 10 MeV Electron Beam

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology, Tehran (Iran, Islamic Republic of)

Description

In this paper the study of the photonuclear interaction induced by 10 MeV electron beam is an approach to generate neutron for producing Mo-99. Since the results are depended on the target material, the calculations are performed for the targets in a simple geometry and made of high z elements of Pb, Ta and W using MCNPX code. The results show the obtained neutron flux can reach up to 1012 n/ cm2/ s with the average energies of 0.9 MeV, 0.4 MeV and 0.9 MeV for these three elements respectively. The optimization of the target by alloying with Beryllium can raise the results up to one order of magnitude. (Author)
