Environmental radioactivity baseline study in the uranium ore deposits of Macusani and Corani, Region Puno. Preliminary report

Description

In this report the results of a preliminary radiological environmental assessment of the uranium ore deposits of Macusani and Corani in the Department of Puno, Peru are shown. In 26 sampling areas, 33 samples of soil, water and sediment were collected. The samples were analyzed by neutron activation analysis (NAA) for the determination of uranium. The concentrations of total uranium in soil were between 3 and 18 ppm, nevertheless, a value of 231 ppm was found in one sample. In sediment samples, the values were between 7 and 8 ppm. The measurements of environmental dose rate (nSv/h) were in the range of values of natural background radiation dose. (orig.)
