The rapidly-rotating field M-dwarf Gliese 890

The authors observed the Hα line profile of GLS 890 using the 2.1 m telescope, coude spectrograph, and CCD detector at the Kitt Peak National Observatory. Observations were secured at phases 0.94, 0.18, and 0.35. Those observations are not yet presentable for publication, but they show that Hα is in emission over the observed phases, and that it increases in equivalent width at phase 0.35 relative to the other phases. A small blue-shift of the short wavelength portion of the line core is also present at phase 0.18 relative to phase 0.94. The authors interpret the current observations to mean that there is excess plage-region activity at the leading edge of a large spot, or group of spots which are responsible for the photometric variation
