Bohm-condition for nonneutral plasma streams
- 1. Department of Physics, University of California, Los Angeles, CA 90024-1547 (United States)
Description
It is demonstrated through a time-dependent particle simulation that an extended sheath forms spontaneously when a nonneutral plasma reflects from a potential barrier. An analytical description shows that extended sheaths develop when the flow velocity is smaller than the Gould-Trivelpiece speed, hence a generalization of the Bohm-condition to nonneutral systems is obtained
