Evaluation of the operation of coolant water purification system before and after replacement of mixed bed resin

Description
Transfer Channel-Interim Storage for Spent Fuel (TC-ISSF) facility is used to store temporarily of the spent nuclear fuel in a pool of water coolant. In maintaining the quality of the water coolant in accordance with limits of normal operating conditions, carried out the operation of the water coolant purification system. Water coolant purification system at the TC-ISSF facility is used to cleanse the dirt in the water coolant. Operation of water coolant purification system can be done automatically by human machine interface programme. The principle of this system is the solute in the cooling water is filtered and captured in a manner cesium ion exchange column filters and mixed bed filters that will reduce conductivity and water coolant activities. In 2015 replacement resin in a mixed bed column consisting of cation resin as much as 100 liters and 150 liters of anion resin. After replacement of the mixed bed resin column, re-purification system operated and monitored operation parameters. The results of the data obtained activities: prior to the replacement of mixed bed resin column, the conductivity of the pool water purification system that makes an average of 1.40 μS/cm and exit purification system an average of 1,395 μS/cm, has a very small decrease in conductivity that is 0,005 μS/cm. After replacement of mixed bed resin column, the conductivity of the pool water purification system that makes an average of 1.40 μS/cm and exit purification system average of 0.28 μS/cm, has a very significant decrease in conductivity is 1.12 μS/cm. It concluded that the replacement of mixed bed resin column greatly affect the conductivity of the cooling water. Allowable conductivity values ≤ 8 μS/cm. (author)
