Description
It is demonstrated that Pu can be extracted from sulfuric acid solutions obtained by acid digestion of Pu-contaminated waste free of sulfate with distribution coefficients Dsub(a)0 varying between 102 and 103 by HDEHP or HDEHP/TOPO in kerosene after addition of NaNO3, other nitrates or HNO3. The extracted complex has the composition Pu(NO3)2H2(DEHP)4 or Pu(NO3)2-(DEHP)2, depending on the loading of the organic phase with Pu. The extraction mechanism is discussed. Back extraction is carried out by use of oxalic acid or ammonium oxalate or by Na2CO3 or (NH4)2CO3 solutions, respectively. (orig.)
