Modified scheme of beam energy ramping for booster

  • 1. Accelerator Physics Section, Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore (India)

Description

The booster synchrotron is a common injector for Indus-1 and Indus-2 synchrotron radiation sources. In the booster synchrotron, 20 MeV electron beam is ramped to higher energy i.e. ∼450 MeV and ∼550 MeV and extracted to further inject in Indus-1 and Indus-2 synchrotron radiation sources, respectively. It is observed that during the energy ramping process, partial beam current loss phenomena takes place as well as a sharp variation in betatron tune points is arising in the initial period of ramping. In the present ramping scheme there is no provision to adjust the tune variation without disturbing the tunes at injection and final energy. To overcome this problem a suitable algorithm has been evolved to keep tune constant during ramping. In this paper the detail control algorithm is discussed. (author)
