Kamiokande and super-Kamiokand results on neutrino astrophysics

  • 1. Kamioka Observatory Institute for Cosmic Ray resaerch and Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe, University of Tokyo, ToKyo (JAPAN)

Description

The observation of supernova neutrinos and solar neutrinos in Kamiokande was the birth of neutrino astronomy. Following these initial observations, high statistics neutrino observations by super-Kamiokande opened a new era in elementary particle physics through the discovery of neutrino oscillations. In this paper, physics achieved by Kamiokande and Super-Kamiokande are reviewed.
