Stoichiometric and X-ray diffraction analysis on the γ2→eta' transformation in a dispersant phase silver amalgam

Description

Phase composition of an amalgam prepared from a two-particle alloy was determined over a 2-year period by X-ray diffraction. The γ2-content decreased from 3.6% to 0.3%, and eta' increased from 3.9% to 10.0%. These alterations in phase content agreed with stoichiometric calculations performed on the basis of the solid state reaction: γ2+Ag/Cu→eta'+γ1. (author)
