Air pollution in the Sudete mountains and the resulting research demands to ecology and forestry
Description
The beginning of area forest decline was in 1981, mainly in high mountain range. During period of 1981-1987 the decay of forests in Sudeten amounted 11000 hectars, from which 10000 hectars it was in Western Sudeten. Now this process exists as before but its course is slow. Pollution of forest environment in Sudeten still remains and increases deforestation process, degradation of ecosystems and makes difficult recultivation measures. Pollution by SO2, NOx, F and dust falls as well, originate not onty from Polish energetistic and industrial plants but also from the other European countries, mainly from South and West. That is why this problem must be considered as problem of whole Continent. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Das Waldsterben in den Sudeten auf grossen Flaechen fing 1981 an hauptsaechlich in der oberen Bergwaldstufe. Im Zeitraum 1981-1987 starben in den Sudeten Waelder insgesamt auf 11000 ha ab, davon 10000 ha in Westsudeten. Dieser Prozess findet weiterhin statt, aber er verlaeuft jetzt langsam. Die Verunreinigung der Waldumwelt in den Sudeten dauert fort und steigert den Prozess der Entwaldung, der Degradation von Oekosystemen und erschwert die Rekultivierung. Die Verunreinigung mit SO2, NOx, F und Staub kommt nicht nur von Kraft- und Industriewerken Polens, aber auch aus anderen europaeischen Laendern, hauptsaechlich vom Sueden und Westen und aus diesem Grund muss dieses Problem als Problem des kontinets anerkannt werden.
