HD 191765: a Wolf--Rayet binary with a low-mass companion

  • 1. Shternberg Astronomical Institute, Moscow

Description

The light and spectrum of the WN 6 star HD 191765 associated with the ringlike nebula S109 vary with a period P = 7/sup d/.44 +- 0/sup d/.10. This Wolf--Rayet object is a close eclipsing binary system with a low-mass (mroughly-equal1--2 M/sub sun/) companion whose optical luminosity exceeds 1036 erg/sec, so that it cannot be a normal star
