Pion double charge exchange on nucleus and the two-pion intermediate states

  • 1. State Research Center, Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, Moscow, 117259 (Russian Federation)

Description

The inclusive pion double charge exchange process (DCX) on nuclei is considered in the framework of the Gribov-Glauber approach. It is shown that inelastic rescatterings related to production of two pions in the intermediate state give an important contribution to DCX at kinetic energies above ∼0.5 GeV. This mechanism dominates at energies > or approx. 1 GeV and allows to explain the weak energy dependence of the DCX cross section observed experimentally
