Description
The inclusive pion double charge exchange process (DCX) on nuclei is considered in the framework of the Gribov-Glauber approach. It is shown that inelastic rescatterings related to production of two pions in the intermediate state give an important contribution to DCX at kinetic energies above ∼0.5 GeV. This mechanism dominates at energies > or approx. 1 GeV and allows to explain the weak energy dependence of the DCX cross section observed experimentally
