Clinical application of somatostatin receptor scintigraphy in medullary thyroid carcinoma

Description

Objective: To study the value of somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) for medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). Methods: SRS was performed in 10 patients with MTC, whole-body scan and planner images were acquired at 4 and 24 h after intravenous injection of 111∼185 MBq of 111In-octreotide. Results: 7 of 9 patients with elevated calcitonin had positive SRS results, and 1 patient with normal calcitonin had positive SRS results. The sensitivity was 77.8%. Conclusion: SRS is a useful method to locate MTC lesions
