Development of dual energy x-ray CT

  • 1. National Inst. of Radiological Sciences, Chiba, Chiba (Japan)

Description

A synchrotron light source dedicated to medical applications has been designed at National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS). One of the most interesting applications of synchrotron radiation is dual energy x-ray computed tomography (CT). It gives us quantitative information about an electron density. The information plays an important role in advancing heavy ion radiotherapy of cancers, which is being performed at NIRS. The dual energy x-ray CT has been under development with basic experiments which were performed at the synchrotron radiation facilities of KEK and SPring8. In this paper, the development is briefly described. (author)
