The atmospheric Cherenkov technique for gamma-ray astronomy

Description
The sensitivities of various versions of the atmospheric Cherenkov technique are evaluated in terms of the effective energy and flux sensitivity for discrete gamma-ray sources with power-law spectra. This permits the single beam, double-beam and guard-ring configurations to be compared. These estimates are based on Rieke's calculation of the Cherenkov light distribution from an air shower initiated by a 1011eV gamma-ray and experimental measurements with the 10 m reflector on Mt. Hopkins, Arizona
