Attempt of lead white provenance of 15-th - 18-th Venetian paintings by nuclear analytical techniques

Connection between the content of trace elements in lead white and the place, time and technology of its production can be determined on the way of extensive studies carried out on sample paintings representing different periods in history and various countries. The objective of the work are systematic studies on the lead white on the paintings of the National Museum and other galleries in Poland. Analysis of samples of lead white taken from genuine 15-th - 18-th century paintings representing the Venetian School were carried out using instrumental neutron activation analysis technique. Twenty five paintings were examined. The total 33 elements were determined in those samples; also the results of lead isotopes ratios are presented. (author)
