Some quantitative estimates about final-state polarization in deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering
Description
The reaction polarized lepton+unpolarized nucleon → Λsub(Σ)+ + anything is discussed and some quantitative estimates are given on the polarization of the hyperons to be expected in a naive parton model. Large polarizations are found for hyperons produced in the parton fragmentation region- of the order of 30% for Λ and 60% for Σ+. For hyperons from the target fragmentation almost as large polarizations are predicted and a relatively large yield is expected
