Evaluation of using or used radioisotopes into the fields of business and public health in Austria, part II

Description

By a thorough inquiry into the fields of business and public health it has been possible to gain information of approximately 75 % of the users of radioactive nuclides. It is estimated, that about 95 % of the total activity used in those fields in Austria has been registered. By evaluating these data the following information has been obtained: there are 23 different radionuclides in use in Austria; the total sum of activity in Austria on the 29.2.2000 is 3,49 x 1016 Bq; most of the activity is concentrated in sealed radioactive sources; the main part of this activity is constituted by sources for material sterilisation; the contribution by the public health sector to this activity amount is approximately 25 %; not regarding large sources (>1 x 1012 Bq), the contribution of public health sources is only approximately 1 %.
