Description

In view of emerging confrontations, we wonder about the real potential for developing bioenergies in rural areas from a perspective that is sustainable and integrated with the territories in which they are developed. It is certain that a sector-based development of bioenergies (industrial biofuels, methanization in intensive livestock farming) will fully satisfy the supporters of a 'productive' rural area and highly specialized agriculture, but relegates its new functions to second place. It therefore seems essential that this new function of the countryside as a resource should fit in with society's new expectations of the countryside. Are there other ways of developing bioenergy in agriculture? How can we make better use of renewable resources, and biomass in particular, which represents a green oil that is often close at hand? The success and sustainability of a project hinges on its social integration, and its ability to match the objectives of the project with the expectations of local stakeholders. As part of our research, we looked at the emergence in rural areas of decentralized projects to produce energy from agricultural biomass. Our work in the field has provided us with many successful examples of projects integrated into their local areas
