Description

Objective: This study was purposed to investigate whether the thyroid relative hormones concentration and positive rates of thyroglobulin and thyroid auto antibodies in thyroid carcinoma patients' serum had significant differences before and after the thyroid surgery. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted using the data of levels of preoperative and postoperative biochemical indexes, including FT3, FT4, TSH, Tg, anti -TSHR, anti -Tg and anti -TPO for 92 thyroid carcinoma patients who received the thyroidectomy. These patients were diagnosed by physical examination, thyroid ultrasonography and ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration biopsy. We then statistically analyzed FT3, FT4 and TSH concentrations between before and after the thyroid surgery with a paired-t test by SPSS 13.0 software. Chi-square test was applied to analyze the differences of preoperative and postoperative positive rates of Tg, anti-TSHR, anti -Tg and anti -TPO of the thyroid carcinoma patients. Results: Our results showed significantly lower FT3 and FT4 concentrations of postoperative serum, compared to preoperative serum (P values were 0.0024 and 0.0001, < 0.05). Moreover, there was no significant difference of TSH concentration between the preoperative and postoperative serum (P = 0.35, > 0.05). A higher Tg positive rate was observed for the postoperative serum, compared with the preoperative serum (P = 0.0001, < 0.05). No significant difference was found before and after operation in anti -TSHR, anti -Tg and anti -TPO positive rates (P values were 0.61, 0.99 and 0.84, respectively). Conclusion: Our research demonstrates that FT3 and FT4 concentrations of the postoperative serum are significantly lower than those of preoperative serum. The post-operation Tg positive rate is significantly higher than that of the pre-operation. No significant difference is observed between the preoperative serum and the postoperative serum in TSH concentration and anti -TSHR, anti -Tg, anti -TPO positive rates. (authors)
