Description
Two cases of ileus resulted from strangulation with foreign bodies at the intestinal stricture caused by the late effect of radiation were reported. These were rare cases caused by both stricture and foreign body intake. Case 1 ileus: A female aging 66 y who underwent radiation therapy post uterectomy due to uterine cancer at the age of 36 y and removal of the skin cancer occurred at the irradiated area at 60 y, gave an intestinal niveau by scout roentgenography. CT observation gave hypertrophy of the ileum wall and a high density foreign body of 2 cm in diameter. Pathological observation post operation for removal of the foreign body, which being found a seed of a pickled plum, presented findings of radiation enteritis. Case 2 ileus: A female aging 79 y who underwent radiation therapy post uterectomy due to cervical cancer at the age of 71 y also gave similar process and findings to above. (H.O.)
