Cooper-pair tunneling with a resonant environment

Description

Cooper-pair tunneling through a Josephson junction can be drastically influenced by the electromagnetic environment. Recent experiments managed to combine dc-biased josephson junctions and an on-chip microwave cavity, to design an environment, where resonant coupling is achieved. In such setups, not only is the Josephson current strongly influenced by the environment, but, furthermore, the emission of energy to environmental modes can be directly monitored. The complicated cavity-junction coupling gives rise to complex physical behavior already in a classical regime, as well as in the quantum regime, which this talk focuses on.
