Luminescent centers in doped crystals of CsMgI3: energy storage and thermoluminescence

  • 1. Tulane Univ., New Orleans, LA (USA). Dept. of Chemistry

Description

The double salt, CsMgI3, appears to be a semiconductor with a wide band gap (4.8ev). The introduction of trivalent impurities (Sc3+, In3+, Ce3+, Gd3+, Ho3+, Er3+ and Tm3+) results in luminescent centers which are excited by irradiation at energies slightly below the band gap. When irradiated at low temperatures the doped crystals store energy and show a pronounced thermoluminescence. (author)
