Craniopharyngioma and moustache sign
- 1. Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth, WA (Australia). Dept. of Diagnostic Radiology
- 2. Royal Perth Hospital, WA (Australia)
Description
Craniopharyngiomas are common suprasellar tumours but these are rarely associated with vasogenic oedema. Because the oedema extends into the optic tracts and optic radiations, a characteristic pattern is produced that resembles a moustache on axial computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging. The oedema is thought to be due to leakage of craniopharyngioma contents and subsided after surgical resection. It was not apparent on follow-up CT examination 6 month later. 2 refs., 2 figs
