Description
The development of selective adsorbents for radioactive Sr2+ ions is one of the most important subjects for the safety decontamination in Fukushima NPP-1. In this study, granular Sr2+ adsorbent made of potassium bititanate has been developed in order to remove radioactive Sr2+ from waste water containing high salinity. The performance of this Sr2+ adsorbent was investigated by means of column experiment. Since thermal deterioration of titanate concerning Sr2+ adsorption performance during sintering for granule production should be prevented, thermal stability of potassium bititanate was also evaluated in order to determine the optimum sintering temperature. High performance for Sr2+ adsorption of this adsorbent was clarified by column experiments. In addition, excellent hydraulic performance was confirmed without increasing pressure loss through packed column during continuous treatment. (author)
