Deformation of 24Mg as determined by elastic and inelastic scattering of 12C and 16O: and systematics of measured deformations of 24Mg

Description

Elastic and inelastic scattering of 16O and 12C ions by 24Mg is investigated and analyzed in terms of the optical model (for elastic scattering) and the coupled channels technique (for elastic and inelastic scattering). Deformation parameters for 24Mg are extracted from the data. Further, these data are used, along with the results from previous experiments, in an examination of the effect of the projectile size on the measured deformation length, β2R0. A trend in these data is observed which follows well the prediction by Hendrie, based on geometrical considerations
