Description
Strings appearing on spontaneous symmetry breaking of the SO(10) grand unified theory are examined. It is shown that when the breaking proceeds via SU(4) x SU(2)sub(L) x SU(2)sub(R), strings that form become the boundaries of domain walls. On the other hand in the breaking via SU(5) based on a 126 Higgs field, stable strings appear that may provide the basis of a theory of galaxy formation. (orig.)
