The low-level radioactive waste dilemma

The dilemma of disposal of low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) is an issue faced by radiopharmaceutical companies and biomedical research and health care institutions as well as the nuclear industry itself. This chapter focuses on the programs and methods employed by one such research and educational institution as it strives to minimize the impact on the research community it serves and yet maintain a resonable, practical, and cost-effective LLRW disposal program. The type of program and the methods used may not be suitable for all applications, and the authors stress that each institution must determine which specific aspects and techniques best meet the goals and objectives of that organization
