Description
The properties of the 18O nucleus are investigated with antisymmetrized α + 14Cg.s. wave functions. Quadrupole moments, rms radii, and reduced α-widths as well as E1 and E2 transitions probabilities are calculated. Comparison with experiment shows that transition probabilities involving molecular states are overestimated by the model, and indicates that a mixing of α + 14Csup(*) configurations should be considered.
