Description

In this study, tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(2.) (Ru(bpy)32+), a strongly luminescent complex, has been physically adsorbed within the channels of meso porous silica MCM-41 to obtain a photoactive hybrid material. In recent years, the photochemistry and photo physics of Ru(bpy)32+ has attracted large attention; much of this interest stems from its electro chemiluminescent properties and its redox behaviour. The physico-chemical properties of the hybrid Ru(bpy)32+/MCM-41 material, characterised by X-ray diffraction (X R D), volumetric analysis and FTIR. Diffuse Reflectance (D R) UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectroscopies will be discussed. This new class of hybrid materials could be a photo luminescent and electro chemiluminescent probe for diagnostics.
