Description

X-ray structure analysis of lead magnesium niobate PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 (PMN) has been performed in the temperature range 110-573 K. When the temperature is lowered, diffraction profiles of reflections are broadened and their integrated intensities are redistributed. It is assumed that these changes are explained by nonuniform displacements of lead atoms in the crystal lattice when the temperature is lowered. Under this assumption, the analytical expression for the scattering factor for Pb atoms has been obtained. The use of this factor in the least-squares procedure results in good agreement between the experimental and calculated integrated intensities of Bragg reflections at low temperatures
