Compilation guidelines and methods on lithofacies and palaeogeographic map for terrestrial sedimentary basin

Description
The significances of compiling lithofacies palaeogeographic map are emphasized for the study on terrestrial sedimentary basin, and the compilation guidelines are proposed as the following: 1) the compiling objects must be the layers in 'spontaneous phases', i.e. the products of sedimentation at the same phases; 2) the layer intervals (sedimentation units) are principally as short as possible, so as to close the real situation and the compiling scales should be decided by the tasks; 3) Walter's law of facies should be strictly followed. The changing succession of sedimentary facies on the profile should be consistent to their extension sequences on the plane; 4) all kinds of sedimentary facies indication such as information from geology, geophysics, geochemistry and paleontology should be fully used and analyzed, so as to comprehensively summarize out the criteria for the correct classification of sedimentary facies; 5) all kinds of sedimentary facies in the map should be integrated to form a sedimentary system. To compile, the first important thing is to get the full and reliable first-hand material. Then, the compilations shall be carried out from the section to plane, the basic maps first and comprehensive map second by following the above steps orderly. (authors)
