Modernization of water desalination plant in NPP Kozloduy by replacement of classical ion-exchange technology with membrane desalination
Description
In this study, the possibilities for modernization of the available water desalination plant in NPP Kozloduy was investigated in order to reduce its ecological impact. Different cases for reconstruction of the water unit by the replacement of ion-exchange filters with membrane modules for reverse osmosis are simulated by software ROSA-9. Optimal results for water salinity and desalinated water recovery were obtained for single-step filtration installation with BW30HR-440i membranes organized in 40 modules with 8 membranes each. The evaluation of the exploitation costs shows lower price of desalinated water by reverse osmosis compared to the classical ionexchange filtration.
